If you can't tell by now I love the creepy cute style and so Yosuke Ueno's art is right up my alley. Ueno is one of those artists with amazing imagination and he brings his creativity to life with such finesse. The details and color schemes are so great and his paintings are simply beautiful. Like most artists he has his tendencies such as painting people in a fish/alien kind of way (but who knows if they're even people), but he can switch it up quite a bit. In Forestia and Possible, Ueno paints surreal worlds and situations but in pieces like Dimension Diver he focuses on one subject.

If you live in the Santa Monica California area, go see Hi Fructose Magazine's group exhibition which features this Japanese artist. The exhibit runs from April 4th to the 25th at the CoproNason Gallery. I wish I lived in Cali just for this!

Featured Artist: Heiko Windisch

SS Platypus by Heiko Windisch

This week's featured artist is German illustrator Heiko Windisch. I really love the simplicity of his colors which are primarily black and white. Instead of utilizing shading and gradeints, he uses lots of detailed dots and lines to create very three dimensional looking pieces. When he does choose to use color it is very minimal and highly effective.

Since Windisch uses solid colors and lines, you can almost visualize the components of his drawings as layers. Sometimes his drawings are transported into a three dimensional world like the SS Platypus (pictured above). Artist Feature: Alberto Cerriteno

Las Dos by Alberto Cerriteno

Mexican artist Alberto Cerriteno is a man of many talents. He has over 10 years of experience in graphic design, dealing with advertising, print and pretty much anything you can call graphic design and more. That sort of background calls for a lot of digital work, but Cerriteno is also an amazing illustrator. Whether its with a computer or by hand, Cerriteno delivers beautifully decorative and textured art to life. For example, Las Dos (pictured above) is a hand illustration where as The Enamored Owl (pictured below) is a digital illustration. In both of these works of art, Cerriteno takes advantage of the strengths of the mediums he is using.

Artist Feature: Mark Ryden

The Butcher Bunny by Mark Ryden

I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with Mark Ryden's work but if not that is what The Highlark Emissary is for. Besides the obvious mastery in his technique as a painter, his unique style is what makes him one of the better known and popular artist in recent years. His paintings take a lot of familiar culture references and places them in surreal, sometimes unsettling settings.

The world Ryden creates, as odd as it maybe has a quality of innocence to it as if a child had envisioned it. When I was a kid I use to imagine the weirdest things in my mind, and Ryden's art inspires to not only embrace the oddities we all have but to let it fly free. Our imagination afterall is the essence of creativity and what keeps us sane..... at least that is the case for me.

Anyway, make sure you check out Mark Ryden's website for more of his work, especially if you are discovering his art for the first time. It will definitely be worth your while.

Artist Feature: Brian Despain

I am really happy that this blog is making me look around for amazing artists because I come across talent like Brian Despain. Despain's work although different seem like they all come from the same fantasy world he created where robots and various creatures interact peacefully. Using his skill in oil paint, Despain brings to life a scene we may all have imagined as a kid. The first time I saw his art I made an instant connection with it somehow and it even gave me a sense of nostalgia.

What I love about Despain's work is that it tells a story. The painting gives us his vision, but from there the viewer naturally is able to open up their own imagination and envision a tale of adventure. You can really tell that he enjoys what he does, and at the end of the day that's what art is all about.
